Tuesday Roundup

Some general news as I’m catching up on everything. Apologize for the long periods of downtime between posts. Last few months have been a bit crazy on the work and personal front. Hopefully the nice Fall we’re having will keep things in check here 😀

Anyways, some of this news is old and most are probably aware of it already but wanted to get it out as readers have submitted these comments and feedback.

Here goes!

  • Did you know that there is now a Tupelo Honey on the Campus at Furman, as well as a Starbucks, Einstein Brothers Bagels & Moe’s Southwest Grill? Nice variety. (May have left some out, don’t remember all) – Thanks Erie!
  • Sidewall Pizza – Pelham Rd. “The Pelham location is set to open in the first quarter of 2017″  – Thanks John!
  • Pita Pit downtown Greenville closed last week. It was unannounced. The doors have a large chain and padlock on them. No appearances of it reopening. – Thanks Tom! [I heard that they closed quite abruptly. Kinda bummer for the lunch crowd downtown]
  • I heard that a Starbucks was opening at the recently closed gas station at the intersection of Highway 14 and Main St., Simpsonville. Would love to know if this is true! – Thanks Renee! [I do not hear of a ton of Simpsonville news so if anyone can confirm this in a comment that would be awesome!]
  • Breakwater & Bar is closing.  While Greenville’s Bacon Bros. Public House is still saddling up for its franchise expansion into Houston, this week the farm-to-table gastropub announced a new partnership that will put a bakery, butchery, and diner right off the Greenville Health System Swamp Rabbit Trail. – Thanks Lorri!
  • Fuddruckers and Starbucks coming soon to Duncan at 290 & 85. Former Denny’s location. – Thanks Mike!

Friday Roundup! Brio Internal Medicine, Caviar & Bananas, Golden Chick, Toss Pizza Pub, and More!

Happy Friday to everyone! Let’s jump into a few recent happenings around the Upstate.

briologo

Brio Internal Medicine is now open in Downtown Greenville. They are located at the corner of E. North and Main Street. Good to see more professional services coming downtown to serve the community. They were recently featured on UBJ:

Brio will have three locations by early 2017, and the downtown Greenville site will be available for urgent care visits, as well as appointments for illnesses and annual check-ups, says David Martin, CEO of Tribe 513, the umbrella company for Brio and other physician practices.

“This location will focus on establishing a primary care provider with working professionals, mostly adults, and especially in the younger crowd of people, ages 22 to 40, who haven’t established care with a primary care provider or who haven’t gotten a physical in five years,” Martin says.

Brio’s new office is designed to appeal to busy, working professionals who do not want to waste time driving across town to a doctor’s office, says Sandy Gibbes, partner with Equip Studio, which has designed the 3,700-square-foot space. It will have three providers and eight exam rooms, all on a second floor that can be reached by elevator.

There are also some recent photos on their Facebook page as well.

Caviar & Bananas is open now. From the looks of it, they are staying pretty busy during the breakfast and lunch hours. The location they are in is a great spot as well. Lots of foot traffic and brings traffic and life to areas off of Main Street.

tosslogo

Saw on their Facebook page that Toss is open now. They are located in the South Ridge area (corner of University and Church Street) of Downtown Greenville.

A few tips came in from readers so I’m going to post them here:

Just bought some sausage from Carolina Growers Group at the Thursday night farmer’s market in Fountain Inn. The young man said their butcher shop is in Gray Court, but in a few weeks they will be opening a butcher shop at 202 Weston Street…a block off of Main Street in Fountain Inn. They will be selling a wide variety of freshly made sausages plus other meats. Their web site is Carolinagrowersgroup.com I love your website! Thanks for all the tips.

Thanks for your support Sheila!

This one is from Lorri:

Breakwater & Bar is closing. http://upstatebusinessjournal.com/news/greenvilles-breakwater-restaurant-bar-closing/ While Greenville’s Bacon Bros. Public House is still saddling up for its franchise expansion into Houston, this week the farm-to-table gastropub announced a new partnership that will put a bakery, butchery and diner right off the Greenville Health System Swamp Rabbit Trail. http://upstatebusinessjournal.com/news/bacon-bros-to-set-up-shop-near-the-swamp-rabbit-trail-plans-franchise-move-into-houston/

I heard about Breakwater closing. Bummer for sure. I hope a new place will take over that location soon. West End is a fantastic area of Downtown for sure!

This tip is not as surprising to hear:

Was looking up Golden Chick locations in the Upstate and noticed that their locations on Pleasantburg in Greenville and also in Greenwood closed. Not sure about the latter, but the former has only shuttered in the last couple of months. http://www.city-data.com/forum/greenville-spartanburg-area/1455665-recently-closed-businesses-greenville-spartanburg-area-123.html

Thanks for the tip Andrew!

Ever since Golden Chick opened up a few years ago the locations seemed a bit off. Their food was good but I think they opened up in the wrong areas.

And this one from Mike:

Fuddruckers and Starbucks coming soon to Duncan at 290 & 85. Former Denny’s location.

Appreciate all the tips everyone! You all rock so keep ’em coming!

I know I’ve missed a bunch. Been a little crazy with work and school starting so I’m a bit behind on updates and postings. Have a great weekend everyone and show your support for some of these new local businesses!

Weekend News: Oakblue Kitchen (Downtown Greenville), Pet Supplies Plus (Taylors), Guitar Center (Spartanburg), and More!

Happy Friday the 13th! Trust you aren’t too superstitious about this freaky day. 🙂 So let’s jump right into a few news bits that’s hit our inboxes lately:

oakbluekitchen

A brand new restaurant is opening up in Downtown Greenville called Oakblue Kitchen. According to their website it looks like they’ll be serving Korean BBQ and Southern Staples (whatever that means). They will be opening up in the former Bravo location on Main Street.

A Korean BBQ restaurant will be a great boon for downtown. That’s one niche that’s non-existant so far.

petsuppliespluslogo

In the Hampton Village shopping center there’s been a few changes. Miniature World of Trains has closed up as well as Wade Hampton Country Buffet. Rumor has it that the Pizza Hut that’s in that center will be opening up a sit down restaurant where the buffet used to be.

Also, the construction has started where the old Sonic used to be for a new Starbucks based on the info that we’ve received.

And finally, a new pet supplies store will be opening up where the Office Depot used to be. Pet Supplies Plus is the name of the store and this will be their first Upstate location (closest one is up in Asheville, NC). You can see where they’ll be located at on this development sheet.

oldchicagopizzalogo

Speaking of pizza. This new Chicago-style pizza place called Old Chicago is coming to the Upstate. It sounds like it might be a few years out though.

The first of the new locations is scheduled to open in Myrtle Beach late this year, with two other locations planned to open in Greenville and Spartanburg in the next three years.

Old Chicago specializes in handcrafted pizzas and craft beer. The restaurant offers classic pub fare like chicken wings and specialty burgers, as well as a variety of pizzas. The restaurant features traditional Chicago style, as well as thin crust varieties, and 30 craft beers on tap.

The restaurant currently has 100 locations in 24 states

Here’s hoping they open sooner than 3 years though!

QuikTrip_logo1

Got a tip from one our readers that QT will be opening yet another location in the Spartanburg area

QT is a great place to be honest. Clean, good food, good gas prices. Glad to see them continuing their expansion and growth in the Upstate.

The Haywood Road area continues to be refreshed and updated. Looks like The Gallery shopping area is getting a parking lot renovation that will be fantastic.

Major appearance changes are planned at The Gallery shopping center on Haywood Road. A New York company, DNA Property Management, plans to develop a courtyard and renovate a side building to accommodate outdoor recreation retailers.

Weinstein said the side building, a former restaurant, is being gutted, and the renovation includes an exterior “elevation plan” to visually enhance the space for retailers such as running stores or bicycle stores. He said city approval is being sought for that project, which will start first.

The courtyard will follow in the area outside of Cici’s, Weinstein said.

According to sources, one of the new shops going in will be Performance Bicycle

The new Performance Bicycle is going to be in the vacated Grille 33 restaurant space. I saw people working on that building last week.

Guitar_Center_logo.svg

Guitar Center opened up yesterday in Spartanburg.

Los Angeles-based music instrument retailer Guitar Center celebrated the grand opening of its Spartanburg store on Thursday.

The company kicked off its fourth store in South Carolina at 1487 W.O. Ezell Blvd. with a live performance by the Charleston-based band Top Jimmy, exclusive savings and gear giveaways.

The store will operate from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Whew! That’s about it for this week. Love seeing all this news! Great for the Upstate (the openings, not the closings). Don’t forget that Culver’s is opening up next week in Greer! Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Twitter as well!

This picture is where Bravo – Nouvelle Mexican Cuisine was until about last week when they shutdown in downtown Greenville.  According to a forum post they will be merging with Cantinflas down the street.

Bravo – Nouvelle Mexican Cuisine on N Main St Greenville closed, but merging operations into Cantinflas on S Main St.

The Chocolate Moose has also closed in their former location but all is not bad! They just moved down the street to M. Judson Booksellers instead.

On Thursday, the changes became official, and Gibbs, Dallam and O’Hara are poised to take the beloved Greenville bakery into a new phase.

“The Chocolate Moose has been a huge part of downtown, and Greenville,” Dallam says. “We feel really excited to carry on what’s been done already.”

First things first, The Chocolate Moose will remain downtown. The bakery had moved to the cafĂ© space at M. Judson Booksellers at 130 S. Main St. The new digs, just a few blocks south on Main Street from the Moose’s original home, will allow the cupcake operation to grow its cafĂ© side.

Interesting to note is that with the relocation the store has changed owners as well and it sounds like they’ll be offering a whole lot more than just cupcakes. Great news for downtown for sure!

And a new retail store named lou lou Boutiques has opened up in the former Ayer’s Leather Shoppe location. Not sure how long they’ve been open but it looks to be a nice store.

You can find out more about lou lou’s here.
