Coming Soon: Menkoi Ramen House (Downtown Greenville)

Oh yes! This is fantastic news! Last year we posted about Menkoi opening up their first Ramen House off Woodruff Road. Well, now they will be opening up a second location in Downtown Greenville!

Their downtown location will be located on North Main in the former Dark Corner Distillery.

Menkoi offers traditional Japanese ramen with a broth and meat of your choice, noodles and a collection of green onions, spinach, and boiled eggs.

They are to open sometime this Winter. So maybe by end of the year? Perfect ramen time!

Opening Soon: Chasing Rabbits Tea Company & Toasty (Downtown Greenville)

The space vacated by Tealoha a few months ago will be a new locally owned tea shop called Chasing Rabbits Tea Company. They’re are scheduled to open this month.

A little blurb from Greenville Online about them:

Chasing Rabbits takes that idea a step further. The shop, with its 50 varieties of tea, sourced from around the world, will have a focus on health, but the owners also wanted to create a space that made tea, well, kind of cool.

Two Chefs have moved to the Stone @ Main area and their former location will soon be occupied by a new breakfast/lunch concept called Famous Toastery.

They are a North Carolina-based chain and have Greenville listed as one of the new cities they will coming to in the near future.

Famous Toastery, which was formerly Toast Cafe, started in Charlotte in 2005. The restaurant is known for its higher end, creative, homemade, breakfast, brunch and lunch options. Most everything is made in house, Maynard said, from the salad dressings to the biscuits and gravy. Even the lobster for the Maine Benedict is delivered fresh each day, Maynard said.

Other popular items include the avocado omelet, crepes, and a quinoa and a kale salad.

Plans call for gutting the former Two Chef’s space, and expanding it significantly by at least 1,000 square feet. The restaurant will feature a range of seating and service options from full-service sit down table seating to counter service and outdoor seating and a grab and go area as well. Famous Toastery will also feature a full bar menu. Maynard said.

Coming Soon?: Tropical Grille (Downtown, Mauldin, Augusta Rd)

Hey all! Hot off the press rumor for you to think about today:

did you hear there will be 3 more Tropical Grilles opening up? One is even going to be downtown.

employee at woodruff road told me

one on Augusta Road, one in Mauldin, and one downtown

they will be with in the next 6 months

So yeah is this true? Is it fake? The tip came in from a friend that frequents the restaurant so it could very well be true. Tropical Grille has grown a good bit since they started in 2010 and they are always packed out.

Stay tuned as we dig into this a little more!

Coming Soon: Husk Restaurant (Greenville)

The downtown Greenville restaurant expansion continues. A Charleston-based restaurant named Husk will be opening their 3rd location in the West End area of Downtown Greenville.

Husk Restaurant will open its third location (the second is in Nashville) at 722 S. Main St.

James Beard award-winning celebrity chef Sean Brock and David Howard, president of the Neighborhood Dining Group, which includes Husk, are bringing the ingredient-driven Southern cuisine restaurant to Greenville with plans to open this fall.

Brock and Howard said they were attracted to Greenville’s emerging culinary scene. “It’s not quite as mature as Charleston but it’s heading that way and we’d like to be part of that,” said Brock. Howard added that the foot traffic and business climate is “spectacular” and he has visited many times and finds the city “very unique.”

Brock will be responsible for the menu and creative, but a chef de cuisine will be hired for day-to-day operations. Husk is expected to employ approximately 60 people and be open for lunch and dinner.

It’s fantastic to see the West End area of downtown Greenville expand. Looking forward to their opening!

Coming Soon: Ink n Ivy (Downtown Greenville)

Finally some news on what is opening in the former Corner Pocket location. It is a new restaurant called Ink n Ivy. UBJ has a writeup on them and some pictures so make sure to check it out.

Hand-painted wall, floor and ceiling murals, tattoo-inspired artwork, unique chandeliers and roll-up doors offering indoor/outdoor seating are just part of Ink N Ivy, a new bar and restaurant concept by restaurant group, The Bottle Cap Group. Ink N Ivy, located in the former Corner Pocket space on Coffee Street, is slated to open the end of May.

The Upstate Business Journal got a “first look” at the space this week, which will include several bar areas, including a rooftop bar, and two floors of restaurant space that will serve “classic American food but with an edgy twist and attention to detail and quality.” The menu will include chef-inspired seafood, steaks and small plate items. “It’s casual enough but also a place to come have a great dinner,” said Britton McCorkle, president & CEO of the Bottle Cap Group.

Their website is up already and you can check out their hours and some more information. This is the same group that opened up Brazwell’s Premium Pub earlier this year as well.
