Looks like the new retail/restaurant area at River’s Edge is going to be the home of a new Irish pub called The Playwright. They are planning on opening up around August.
The restaurant will be open for both lunch and dinner, offering authentic Irish pub food, including fish and chips, bangers and mash, and shepherd’s pie, along with some American fare such as fish, steaks and salads.
Thirty-six beers will be on tap, along with wine and cocktails and some Irish whiskeys. Brunch will be offered on Saturdays and Sundays.

A while back we posted here and here about Lowes Foods coming into the Upstate. Seems they finally broke ground yesterday.
Lowes will be atypical of its new prototype, built from the ground up, with products added between now and its scheduled opening in late summer or early fall 2016. About 100 “hosts” will be employed with “casting calls” for the more “entertaining jobs”.
So for folks living in the Riverside area – Suber/Hammett Bridge Road area – you’ll be excited to see this finally coming to fruition over the next year or so!
Although Greer will be their first location it won’t be the last. They are aiming to open around 5 stores in the Upstate! Nice!
Ah, the hype intensifies! Word from one of our local ‘in-the-know’ peeps just posted this:
Work started this week for CCF.
So make of it what you will. Is Cheesecake Factory coming to Greenville or not? It’s amazing how much news and chatter comes about for CCF. Whether or not you like their food (or cheesecakes) I think this (if true) will be a great addition to Greenville’s foodscape.

Found out that in the former K-Mart location on WHB and next to the Planet Fitness location, will be coming a new discount store opening up soon. No ETA on opening but read that it will be a Roses Discount Store.

Ooo…a ‘custom donut shop’? In Greenville? Aw yeah.
Check out this awesomeness:
The Doughnut Experiment presents its deliciously fried treats in a little bit of a different way. The shop is set up to allow guests to create their own flavors. You start with a base of a freshly made, fried to order cake doughnut, choose your frosting and then choose a topping.
The Greenville shop will follow the same format, allowing customers to come in and create their own favorites. The store will feature five different icings: vanilla, glazed, maple, chocolate and caramel and a bountiful list of toppings from sea salt and Oreos to various candy bar bits, nuts and even Fruity Pebbles.
They will be open in September:
The Donut Experiment will open on Augusta Road around Labor Day, according to local owner, Terri Klaeser. The unique shop will not only be the first location in South Carolina, but will be the first franchise location for the Anna Maria, Florida-based company.
The Donut Experiment will be located at 2123 Augusta Rd., Greenville
